ATN Frontiers

An innovative professional development program for Australia’s next generation of PhD and research Masters students. ATN Frontiers supports graduates to better understand the future, to best prepare for it.

Our program

The ATN Frontiers Program consists of three levels of modules for candidates to complete sequentially – the program is interdisciplinary and suitable for students from all subject areas. Level 1 and Level 2 modules are now live, with Level 3 due to launch in 2025.

Level 1:

Foundations of the Future

4-8 weeks

Course Structure

10 hrs approx. online learning


These modules consist of self-paced and directed learning about the potential changes in societal needs, research capabilities and technological advances, along with the possible influencers and disruptions that may impact on our futures. Students who successfully complete a Level 1 module will receive a digital certificate, digital credential (which can be added to LinkedIn) and will be invited to join the ATN Frontiers Alumni Community.

Level 2:

My Future Master Classes

3-4 weeks

Course Structure

15 hrs approx. online learning


Level 2 of ATN Frontiers provides more in-depth investigations and engagement with specialised issues and skillsets through intensive workshop-based master classes. Each masterclass will focus on specific skills and strategies needed to shape the future, featuring cohort experiences and expert facilitators.

We’re graduating highly-employable innovators, able to look beyond the present to shape the future.

By understanding the challenges and opportunities ahead, our graduates are better prepared to create and fill employment gaps that may not yet exist.

Any Questions

Who can enrol in these courses?

HDR students currently enrolled at one of ATN’s Universities (Curtin University, Deakin University, RMIT University, University of South Australia or UTS), are able to enrol into ATN Frontiers Modules.

Is there a cost for undertaking the courses?

No. These modules are free of charge to HDR students of ATN member Universities.

I’ve registered interest for a module. When will I find out if I’ve been accepted?

If a place is available in your selected module, the team at ATN Frontiers will contact you with instructions to complete your enrolment. Keep an eye on your email for further information.

I’ve enrolled in a module. What happens next?

Students will receive an email prior to the module commencing and will be able to access the online materials from the commencement date. Please block out the live workshop date and time in your calendar.

What do I receive once I’ve successfully completed each module?

You will receive a digital certificate and credential for completing a Level 1 module. You will receive a digital certificate for completing a Level 2 module. Certificates and credentials can be added to your CV and LinkedIn profile.

I’ve enrolled into a module, but I can no longer participate on those dates. What should I do?

Please let us know at frontiers@atn.edu.au as soon as possible so we can allocate your space to another student.


In order to enrol, students will receive the ATN Frontiers Registration of Interest form directly from their university. Once this form is complete, the ATN Frontiers Program Team will contact students to complete their enrolment. Places are limited so we recommend registering interest as soon as possible.
