Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), RMIT University

Professor Sherman Young is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and Vice-President of RMIT University where he is responsible for the strategic leadership of RMIT’s student learning and experience from enrolment to graduation.

Before joining RMIT, Sherman held academic leadership positions at Macquarie University, and has been an academic for over twenty years, with a research focus on the impact of new media technologies on policy, culture and industries. He has a BSc in Design (UNSW), an MA in Media Technology and Law (Macquarie) and a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies (UQ). He has published, presented, and supervised in both Media Studies and Education disciplines.

As well as his university role, Sherman is Chair of the Board of the Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre in Melbourne’s north, and Board Member for Open Universities Australia, RMIT Online and the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). Prior to joining the university sector, he ran a multimedia production company.
