Innovation and new technologies key to National Defence Strategy

19 April 2024

Member institutions of the Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) will play a crucial role in building the specialised capabilities outlined in the 2024 National Defence Strategy, particularly with the foreshadowed investment across innovation and cyber security.

ATN Executive Director (Interim), Frank Coletta, said Australia needs a strong pipeline of highly skilled professionals to address strategic and security challenges identified in the Strategy.

“ATN universities are among the best-placed to produce the skilled workforce needed, thanks to their emphasis on hands-on learning and critical thinking to find real-world solutions to real-world problems,” he said.

“New and emerging technologies will play a pivotal role going forward, particularly in the area of cyber security. ATN universities are keenly focused on developing those emerging technologies and training those who will be needed to meet the needs of our future workforce.

“We will continue to work closely with the Federal Government on implementation of the Strategy and helping to achieve the goals which have been outlined.”
