Horizon Europe opens the doors for Australian research

The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN Universities) welcomes the announcement that negotiations between the Australian Government and Horizon Europe have now concluded, bringing Australia a step closer to joining the world’s largest research and innovation program.

As champions for applied research and global collaboration, ATN Universities welcome the opportunity for Australian researchers and innovators to work alongside international partners to tackle shared challenges and accelerate the translation of research into real-world outcomes.

ATN Executive Director Dr Andy Marks says that Australia’s participation in Horizon Europe comes at a critical point in time as the nation prioritises strengthening Australia’s economic productivity and building sovereign capability.

“To grow our national productivity, we need to lean on our international partners and global expertise. Australia is not in this fight alone – we need to share our knowledge, discoveries and ideas with the world. We have great expertise to offer, and a lot to be gained from deeper international cooperation.”

“To reach our national productivity goals, we need to deepen our international collaborations. The ATN Universities have proven expertise in Horizon Europe focal areas like critical minerals, healthcare, climate and clean energy. We congratulate Minister Tim Ayres for championing Australian innovation on a global stage through this important program.”
