Funding for Industry / University Collaboration welcomed

The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) welcomes today’s announcement by Senator the Hon. Kim Carr, Shadow Minister for Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Industry to further invest in boosting university/ industry collaboration.

“ATN universities are focused on real-world research, with strong ties to industry and we support initiatives that have a proven track record in helping improve university-industry collaboration,”said Renee Hindmarsh, ATN Executive Director.

“We welcome the additional funding for the CRC program that is a proven platform for collaboration between Australia’s world-class researchers and industry.”

“Running Australia’s only Industry Doctoral Training Centre (IDTC), the ATN knows first-hand the value of Higher Degree by Research students gaining real-world practical skills and experience through placement in industry. We are pleased to see funding for the Industrial Transformation Research Program that supports this activity and will help drive the cultural change necessary for Australia to improve its levels of university/ industry collaboration.

“Australia is second-last in the OECD when it comes to collaboration. We need bipartisan support and long-term policy consistency to achieve meaningful and lasting changes in this area.”
