Access and equity

ATN universities enrol 19% of the nation’s students, 19% of low SES students, 14% of disabled students and 17% of indigenous students. The ATN Access and Equity working group was established as a direct result of the recent reforms to the Higher Education sector. It will report on issues such as changes to HECS fees and their impact as well as the new dilemmas in recruiting low-income students. It will also work to improve outcomes related to staff and student equity by way of:

• Exchanging information on policies and programs, and promoting best practice
• Annual benchmarking on key data such as student access, participation , success and retention
• Annual benchmarking on emerging issues such as support measures for low-SES students
• Timely and strategic projects on aspects of equity and access for staff and students
