Networking & mailing list

Participants are encouraged to form a network of individuals in each institution to share information, discuss issues and provide mentoring. Both formal and informal arrangements are encouraged through WEXDEV.

ATN WEXDEV also aims to increase the networking opportunities for participants who are visiting or passing through one or another of the four cities in which the other ATN institutions are located. Women are able to arrange informal contacts when visiting other institutions.

Women are also able to register as members of ATN WEXDEV electronic mailing list, which involves around 500 women. All participants have the opportunity to undertake structured strategic discussions. The Discussion List also includes useful information on upcoming seminars, opportunities for placements and events and career opportunities of interest to program participants. There are also possibilities that such electronic relationships may provide an external source of mentoring for ATN WEXDEV women.

The information exchange functions not only for the 5 ATN Universities, but also for the wider higher education community in Australia. Since 1999, following on the WEXDEV-organised meeting on leadership Programs for Women in Australian Universities a network for those working in staff development for women has been organised by the University of Western Australia Leadership for Women Program (sdfw) and runs an e-mail discussion list. ATN WEXDEV contacts are active in this network and information about the successes or problems of programs for women is provided as needed or requested by network participants. Material is also shared with the Equal Opportunity practitioners in Higher Education (EOPHEA).
