2004:

Nigeria

From 3-9 October 2004, ATN WEXDEV Director Colleen Chesterman was one of the facilitators of a West African Regional Training the Trainers Workshop on Women in Management in Higher Education. This took place at the Confluence Beach Hotel, Lokoja State, Nigeria. It was sponsored by the Association of Commonwealth Universities and funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Local organisers were senior women from the University of Ibadan.

UK

In May, Wexdev Director Colleen Chesterman presented at conferences in the UK. Read a report on these conferences.

US

In April, WEXDEV Director Colleen Chesterman had meetings with academics and researchers attached to the Center for Women, Leadership and Management at the Simmons School of Management, Boston, Mass.

2003

Italy

In April, WEXDEV Director Colleen Chesterman was in Genoa Italy at the third European Conference on Gender Equality in Higher Education.

2002

Pakistan

In November, WEXDEV Director Colleen Chesterman was in Pakistan working with the Fatimah Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi, Pakistan which organised a workshop for senior women in collaboration with the British Council, Pakistan and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). Uganda

In July, WEXDEV Director Colleen Chesterman attended the 8th International Interdisciplinary Congress on Women Women and Higher Education at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. This conference is held every three years.

2000-2002

South Africa

From 2000-2002 ATN WEXDEV was funded for an Australia/South Africa Links Project to establish a Support and Professional Development Network for Senior Women in South African Higher Education. Funds were provided by the Australian Government through its Agency for International Development (AusAID), managed by IDP Education Australia. It was based in South Africa at Peninsula Technikon (Pentech), and operated in partnership with the Forum for African Women Educationalists South Africa (FAWESA). A register of senior women was also established with the Committee of Technikon Principals. The project established networks among senior women at provincial level and across South Africa and developed training programs to establish mentoring for women, and to increase women's research productivity, involving all Universities and Technikons. A national conference was held on Bridging the Digital Divide: Technological Demands on Women in Higher Education and a group of 7 senior South African women managers in higher education visited the ATN universities.

2000 -

Asia

WEXDEV has worked with women from Asian countires. In October 2000 Professor Eleanor Ramsay delivered a keynote address, Women and Leadership in Higher Education [.pdf], at a UNESCO sponsored conference at Kebangsaan University Asian Women Leaders in Higher Education.

1999 -2000

Europe

In July 1999 Colleen Chesterman visited the UK, where are very low numbers and proportion of women in senior positions in the universities and colleges. She made links with the Committee for Vice-Chancellors and Principals. She also met with the Association of Commonwealth Universities, who have prepared training manuals on Women in Management in Higher Education She also had discussions with Through the Glass Ceiling, an advocacy network for senior women.

In September 2000 Professor Eleanor Ramsay attended a major conference in Zurich organised by the European Women and Higher Education Network. She presented a keynote paper on Gender Employment Equity in Australian Universities.

2000

USA

In January 2000, Colleen Chesterman gave papers on WEXDEV at an international conference on Women in Higher Education organised by the National Association of Women in Education in New Orleans. Her paper was on Women's Executive Development in Australian Universities: The WEXDEV Model [.pdf].

In Washington Colleen had meetings with the Office of Women in Higher Education at the American Council of Education . In New York Colleen met Catalyst, a non-profit organisation that works with the private sector on the promotion of women and on family-friendly work practices and organisational cultures.
