The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) continues as the world’s leading network of young universities. All five ATN universities ranked in the top 100 universities in the Times Higher Education Young Universities Rankings 2018, released today.

The University of Technology Sydney remains as Australia’s highest ranked university and ranks at 16th in the world. The University of South Australia has risen 14 places to 26th, Curtin has risen 16 places to 68th, Queensland University of Technology has risen 4 places to 20th, and RMIT places at 100th.

ATN Executive Director Renee Hindmarsh says “15 per cent of the top 100 young universities come from Australia. We are batting well above our weight and this reflects the high quality of Australia’s higher education sector.”

Today’s rankings recognises the strong performance of Australia’s universities on the world stage, especially when comparing universities of a similar age.

The ATN continues to lead young, agile and forward-thinking universities, championing innovative teaching and research to deliver work-ready graduates.“A core part of the ATN’s mission has been supporting collaboration with industry through our real world, applied research focus. This has come from our history of working with industry, illustrated by the fact that nearly two thirds of our research has been funded by industry and end-users since 2010,” says Ms Hindmarsh.

“This industry focus, alongside our primary commitments to access and equity, have allowed us to cultivate a network of five young universities that are internationally recognised for excellence in higher education.”

ATN universities are responsible for educating 22 per cent of Australia’s international students, and 19 per cent of all Australian university graduates.

“ATN graduates have a clear career advantage, and that’s why we’re the institutions of choice for so many students,” Ms Hindmarsh says.
