ATN in PROFILE
As universities with a strong focus on engagement with industry and producing graduates with skill sets that make them ready to enter the workforce the Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) has welcomed budget initiative to upskill existing workers in key industry sectors.
The ATN has welcomed the release of the new Skilled Occupation List by Minister Chris Evans, citing it as a critical element in Australia’s workforce development. Executive Director of the Australian Technology Network (ATN), Ms Vicki Thomson says “A truly national approach to workforce development must be one that recognises the contribution of a range of agencies and stakeholders.
Industry, universities and government all need to work together if Australia is to address its need for skilled workers in the future. This may require strategies that thus far have not been extensively used by industry, but that are needed if anticipated skills shortages are to be addressed.
Moves to establish a 'My Universities' website to enable greater transparency to assist prospective students in making informed choices have been welcomed by the Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN)
The ATN is well on the way to meeting its sustainability targets, with a steady reduction in carbon emissions indicating that our universities are well on track in reducing their environmental footprint.
The ongoing partnership between ATN and Chinese universities to boost their capabilities in research and research training in nanoscience is soon to enter a new phase, with the recruitment of scholarship students and appointment of adjunct staff to give students international research exposure and opportunities.
