

Associate
Professor Jon Buckley is the current acting Director of the ATN
Centre for Metabolic Fitness, and is also the Deputy Director of the
Nutritional Physiology Research Centre at the University of South
Australia. His main research interest is in examining the health benefits of
nutrition and exercise, particularly as it relates to reducing obesity and
cardiovascular disease risk.
Since completing his PhD in exercise science in 1997, Associate Professor
Buckley has been successful in attracting in excess of $7m in research
funding from competitive granting bodies and industry to study various
aspects of diet and exercise on human health. He has published in major
international peer-reviewed journals, contributed to the development of
patents for new nutritional products for both domestic and export markets,
and worked with government to influence nutrition policy in Australia in
relation to the regulation of health claims for omega-3 fatty acids.
Associate Professor Buckley also has an interest in diet and exercise
strategies for improving the performance of elite athletes, and pioneered
work on the performance enhancing effects of bovine colostrum. Professor
Buckley continues to research the benefits of bovine colostrum and other
nutritional ergogenic aids and training programs for elite athletes.
