Zheng Hu was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu in 1964. He attended Nanjing University for his undergraduate and postgraduate education from 1981 to 1991, and earned his BS (1985), MS (1988), PhD (1991) degrees in Physics. After two-year’s postdoctoral research in Department of Chemistry, he assumed an associate professor position in 1993, professor position in 1999, and Cheung Kong Scholar distinguished professor position in 2007. As a guest scientist, he visited Research Center of Karlsruhe (Germany), University of Cambridge (UK), and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US) for two years.
Hu has mainly worked in the research field of materials chemistry addressing on the synthesis and growth mechanism of a range of nanoscale materials such as carbon-based nanotubes and group III nitrides, the characterization of the unique physical properties of these materials, as well as the demonstration of applications of these materials in fuel cells and nanodevices. This research by definition is highly interdisciplinary.
