Dr. Yu (Roger) Dong is currently a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Curtin University. Roger graduated with a BE degree from Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST), China in 2000. Then he moved to New Zealand to complete both the ME degree with First Class Honours in 2002 and the PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. His orally presented paper entitled “characterisation and object-oriented finite element modelling of polypropylene/organoclay nanocomposites” was selected for the Best Paper Silver Award at the 5th Asian-Australasian Conference on Composite Materials (ACCM-5) held in Hong Kong, 2006. In 2007, he was also nominated for “MARQUIS Who’s Who in the World” and for MacDiarmid Young Scientists of the Year Awards, Foundation for Research Science and Technology (FRST), New Zealand. He is a Member of Editorial Boards for International Journal of Polymers and Technologies, Journal of Modern Applied Science and Journal of Applied Physics Research. To recognise his contribution in polymer nanocomposite area, he was appointed as a Member of Organising Committee for the Nineteenth International Symposium on Processing and Fabrication of Advanced Materials (PFAM XIX), Auckland, New Zealand, January 14-17, 2011. Roger was the sole editor with pride for new technical book entitled “Nanostructures: Properties, Production Methods and Applications” by Nova Science Publishers (to appear in 2012). Due to the outstanding research output in 2010, he was the Prize Recipient of Highest RPI Points for Publication for an Early Career Researcher (ECR) at Curtin Faculty of Science and Engineering in November 2011.
Roger is actively affiliated to several global engineering professional bodies as members of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE), USA, Institute of Nanotechnology (IoN), UK and Australasian Association for Engineering Education (AAEE) as well as a key researcher for the ATN-ISTA Australia-China NanoNetwork and Australian Research Network for Advanced Materials (ARNAM). He serves as a selected reviewer for Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Letters, Journal of Materials Science and Engineering A, Journal of Composite Materials, Journal of Composites Part B, Chemical Engineering Journal, International Journal of Engineering and Journal of Nanomaterials.
