Namita Roy Choudhury did her PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India and a post-doctoral fellowship in CNRS, France, investigating the role of adhesion and surface modification of colloidal fillers on the performance of their composites. She worked at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) as a Research Engineer and part time teaching in the inaugural Polymer Engineering course teaching Polymer Compound Design and Elastomer Engineering. She commenced at the University of South Australia in 1996.
Currently she is a Research Professor in the internationally renowned Ian Wark Research Institute (IWRI). Choudhury’s research activity pertains to both fundamental and applied research specifically at the intersection of three fields: polymer chemistry, biomaterial and sustainable material, associated with new polymeric materials, functional polymer, nanomaterials, hybrids and nanocomposites, barrier material, biomimetic polymers, hydrogel, membranes, polymer coating. Within the above research portfolios, Choudhury has taken a strong leadership role in a number of major collaborative projects with national and international partners, polymer industries, the Australian Research Council (ARC), and University researchers from Australia and overseas. She is an author/co-author of more than 220 publications and a regular reviewer of many leading international journals, ARC grants.
