Dr Richmond has held a number of research positions including a fellowship in France at the Université de Nancy in 1994. From 1999-2001, Bill was Research Chemist at Sirtex Medical Ltd., a medical research and development company that is developing and commercializing innovative treatments for liver cancer. While at Sirtex, the developed synthetic methods for the production of magnetic nanoparticles used in a novel hyperthermia treatment for liver cancer. Dr Richmond is currently a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at Curtin University, and Course Coordinator for the BSc(Nanotechnology) degree.
His more resent research activities lie in the field of materials chemistry, with a particular emphasis on the control of nanoparticle formation in precipitation reactions. Current work is aimed at understanding the mechanisms of crystallisation that give rise to unique morphologies in common nanoparticle synthesis methods. This work is of particular importance in the development of synthetic methods for the production of functional nanoparticles.
